Meet the Directors

Part of what makes Rehab Synergies so successful is our exceptional leadership team with years of experience to oversee operations at our facilities in Texas and Wisconsin. Our Directors lead a multi-talented team of Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists, Assistants and support staff; providing leadership to improve treatment for Patients and long-term outcomes.

    Carmen Vitton M.S., CCC-SLP, RAC-CT, CDP is the Chief Operating Officer for Rehab Synergies, a provider of Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy services with over 50 Residential, Transitional Care Facilities and Outpatient along with Home Health agencies throughout Texas, which she started in 2010. Carmen is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 25+ years of multi-facility, multi-state clinical, managerial and operational experience in the public school, hospital, home health, skilled nursing and outpatient settings. She is a member of ASHA’s Special Intereste Divisions 13 Swallowing & Dysphagia, Aural Rehabilitation, 14 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity, and is a member of the Dysphagia Research Society.  Carmen participates in the Dallas Chamber of Commerce Executive Women’s Roundtable and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Carmen resides in Dallas with her Husband Jim who is an International Captain for Delta Airlines. They have two Westies, Lucy and Louis.

    Melissa Collier received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and received her Masters of Science degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Melissa is a member of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

    Melissa works as a Regional Director of Rehabilitation and serves as the Director of Audit Compliance for Rehab Synergies. Previously, she worked as the facility Director at our center in Palo Pinto. She has clinical experience in acute care settings, outpatient rehabilitation, in-patient rehabilitation, home health and skilled nursing facilities. Melissa’s clinical experience involves adult and geriatric populations with a variety of disorders/diseases, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, motor speech disorders, alternative/augmentative communication systems, dysphagia, and more. Melissa lives in Brock, Texas. She has been married to Andrew for 5 years and has 2 children, Emily and Levi. She loves to read, dance, and travel.

    Marlon Hill, OTR, CLT

    Marlon Hill graduated from University of Texas at Tyler with a B.S. in Health and Kinesiology in 2009. He then entered Occupational Therapy School at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he earned Master’s of Occupational Therapy in 2012. Marlon joined the Rehab Synergies team following graduation. While with the company he has also become a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and a Certificate as a Fieldwork Educator.

    April Fisher graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.A. in Mass Communications. She then entered Physical Therapy School at Hardin-Simmons University, where she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2007. After graduation, April worked as a traveling therapist in South Carolina and Colorado before returning home to Texas. April’s areas of expertise include wound care, manual orthopedic treatment and geriatric rehabilitation. She is the former Director of Rehabilitation for Rehab Synergies at Clyde Health Care Center and was recently promoted to Regional Director of Rehabilitation.

    In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her three dogs, playing sports and being on the lake.

    Molly Freyer received her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Molly has supervised ASHA Clinical Fellows as well as numerous practicum level college students of Communication Disorders and Music Therapy.  Molly is a 2015 recipient of the Award for Continuing Education (ACE)  from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is planning to become a Certified Dementia Care Practitioner (CDP) in May.  She has provided Continuing Education Courses to Social Workers in Texas and has presented at the conference of the Southwest Region of the American Music Therapy Association. Molly became a LSVT LOUD Certified Clinician in April, 2016.

    Shelli was born and raised in Bowie, TX. She graduated in 2004 from North Central Texas College as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She immediately began her career in skilled nursing facilities. In addition to providing routine patient care she specialized in wound care. Most recently she ventured into home health to further her career in the nursing field. Shelli states “I strive for excellence and plan on continuing my education for a higher degree in the medical field .” In her spare time, Shelli enjoys sewing and crafting. She encourages her 3 children to explore their creative sides in MH and is a proponent of farming and raising her own food.

    Amy Nichols has been working with Rehab Synergies since 2011 as a Director and Physical Therapist Assistant in McAllen and Tomball, TX and recently began working as Regional Director.  She is excited for the opportunity to further her career with Rehab Synergies. Amy graduated from Colby Community College with a Physical Therapy Assistant degree in 2005 and continued her education by receiving a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration.

    Amy has worked in a variety of settings including pediatric and adult outpatient, inpatient, as well as acute and long term care. Over the years she has developed a compassion for the geriatric population. Amy enjoys the variety of clinical and team approaches involved in long term care. She is a self motivated individual and her dedication to quality patient care is the most important aspect of her career.

    Amy is from Nebraska and enjoys going back to visit her family, especially her nieces, and catching Husker football in the fall. She now lives in Spring, TX and enjoys many outdoor activities especially scuba diving and hiking.

    Graduating from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Science Degree, Jennifer furthered her education  with a Master’s of Science from Texas Christian University with a  degree  in Communication Disorders. Jennifer has been with Rehab Synergies since its inception in 2010. Jennifer is bilingual and has over 10 years experience in skilled nursing rehabilitation. She was recently married and enjoys traveling and exercising.

    Shannon graduated from Austin Community College, in Austin, Texas with an Associates of Applied Sciences, Occupational Therapy Assistant Degree. She has been with Rehab Synergies since its inception in 2010 and has over 14 years rehabilitation experience. Shannon resides in the Houston area, with her Husband and 2 daughters.

    Beth Walters is the Director of Rehab and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at White Settlement Nursing Center.  She is originally from Allentown, Pennsylvania where she graduated from Lee High Community College as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.  Beth has been practicing as a COTA for the last 10 years and enjoys working with the adult/geriatric population with an expertise in pulmonary rehabilitation.  During her free time, Beth enjoys shopping and playing with her 2 dogs.

    Aimee McEwen has been a PTA for 16 years. She graduated from McLennan Community College with a degree in Applied Science. She has worked with the geriatric population for 10 years.   She absolutely loves her job and seeing patients meet their goals to return home to enjoy life. After serving our country in the Armed Forced as a Personnel Management Specialist. Aimee brings to us a combined experience of 10 years as a Regional and Facility Director of Rehab. She has 3 children and a husband that will soon graduate with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy where they will continue to work together to enhance function of their patients.

    Briana Keeling, M.A., CCC-SLP is originally from a small coastal town in Maine. Upon graduation of high school, she joined the U. S. Navy, and served for over 9 years as a Naval Air Crewman and a linguist. During her service, Briana was sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California to learn Persian Farsi, and then Spanish. This love of language learning inspired her to further her studies in speech language pathology, and she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Disorders and Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology from Our Lady of the Lake University. While in school and clinical rotation, she developed a passion for working with adults suffering from dysphagia and cognitive deficits, and subsequently pursued a focus on the study and treatment of swallow disorders and cognitive rehabilitation.

    Heather has enjoyed working as Rehab Director/OTR at Prairie House for the past 5 years. Heather graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 1999 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Occupational erapy. At Prairie House Heather and her team have an amazing track record and strive to quickly get people well and back home. In addition, Heather is very excited about the new equipment and renovations currently taking place at Prairie House.     Corina is a Rio Grande Valley Native who graduated from the University of Texas Pan American in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitative Services.    She pursued a career in Special Education for 6 years in the public school setting and later received a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy.  Since graduating as an OTR in 2006, she has the experience of working in various clinical settings that include skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, home health and pediatrics.  Her passion for working in the skilled nursing setting has allowed her the opportunity to work as the DOR and Occupational Therapist for Colonial Manor- McAllen for the past 4 years.  Her future plans include obtaining a Lymphedema Management Certification through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies this year.

    While performing dual roles of an OTR and DOR, she finds balance in her family.  She shares her life with her husband (Joseph), 8 year old son (Dylan) and 2 year old daughter (Avery) where there is never a dull moment.

    Jill Darling, M.S. CCC-SLP was born in Waco, Texas. A graduate of Baylor University with a Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Jill has been a practicing speech language pathologist in the long term care setting for 5 years. Jill is especially interested in the area of stroke recovery. Jill was previously the Director of Rehabilitation /Speech Language Pathologist for Stonebrook Manor at Broadway and recently moved to Keller with her family.

    Jayme was raised in the small town of Earth, TX where her mother and step-father still reside.  In 2001 Jyame’s Mema had her first stroke and after going to therapy with her, she knew in her heart that she loved helping other people.  Years went by and in high school her Mema suffered her second stroke.  Jayme says “I alsways knew that therapy had a special place in my heart.” After a friend suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in a car accendent, Jayme spent hours at the hospital and in therapy gyms.  This confirmed what Jayme knew, she wanted to be a therapist.  She graduated with an Associates Degree in Applied Science recieving her COTA in June 2010.

    When not working, Jayme loves spending time with her husband Jordan, her sister, niece, nephew and mother.  Jayme says “I love what I do and love to see my paitents and their families smile.  The joy on their faces after the progress they make is beyond amazing.  When you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

    Chelsea has been with Rehab synergies for one year now. She is currently the Director of Rehabilitation at Whitehall Nursing Center, TX. She attended Navarro College and graduated in 2009 with an Occupational Therapy Assistant degree. She enjoys working for Rehab Synergies and the rewards of successful therapy with her patients. She has worked in home health and SNF’s since she has graduated from college and has realized that the geriatric setting is her passion. She is married and has one daughter who is two years old. She enjoys watching her daughter play soccer and spending time with her family. Chelsea loves the building she works at and feels that it is a team efort to makes things run smoothly and fun.

    I attended and graduated from Anamarc College, in El Paso, Texas with an Associates of Applied Sciences, Occupational Terapy Assistant Degree. Shortly thereafter, I went on to continue my education receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education. And soon, I will continue on to obtain my MOT degree. I have primarily worked with the adult/geriatric population in, home health, long term acute care, and skilled nursing facilities. I truly enjoy working for Rehab Synergies is by far one of the best rehab companies I have worked for. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family,especially my newborn baby boy.

    Jill Young grew up in the Kansas City Metro Area and earned her Associate’s degree in Applied Science in the Physical Therapist Assistant program from Kansas City Kansas Community College.  Jill started her therapy career working at Parkview Care Center in Ft. Worth, Texas in 2011.  In June of 2014,  Jill started working at Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Vernon as a PTA and was offered the Director of Rehabilitation job in August 2014.

    Jill is very energetic and always has a smile on her face.  She enjoys making her patients laugh and work hard at the same time, and she lives by the Abraham Lincoln quote, “People are as happy as they make their minds up to be,” and she chooses to be happy on a daily basis.    Jill is a mother of two beautiful children, one boy and one girl and has two crazy dogs.

    John-Wesley Gericke is the Director of Rehab and Physical Therapy Assistant for Wedgewood Nursing Home. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. He worked in Philadelphia as an exercise physiologist fulltime at a private sports medicine and rehab clinic, while going to school and graduated from Harcum College in 2011 with an Associates of Science degree in Physical Therapy. He moved to Texas right after graduation in May 2011.

    Sulphur Springs Rehabilitation Department is staffed with highly skilled Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapists and Assistants. Led by, Curtis Mayo, Physical Therapist Assistant, the team works together to help patients reach their goals of higher quality of life, whether it be to return home independently or to increase independence within the facility.  Curtis Mayo is a Senior Director with Rehab Synergies having been with them since inception in 2010.

    Kelly Barron,MS/CCC-SLP, graduated from Univ of North Texas in 1992 with her masters degree  in speech language pathology and undergraduate work in communication disorders  completed at Texas State University.    She has over 20 years experience with the geriatric population , but has experience with all ages in a variety of settings including: hospitals, home health, outpatient, and pediatrics.  Her specialty is with the aging population with treatment for  neurological disorders and other dysfunctions affecting speech, hearing, swallowing, and cognition. She is working on her second year with Rehab Synergies.

    She is married to Darrell, who is a coach/teacher in Azle and they have one daughter, Paige, who is a freshman in college. She enjoys attending church/bible study, going to soccer games for her daughter, and spending time with her family.

    The Director of Rehabilitation at Balch Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation is Dee’Andrea Sterns. She is a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant and graduated from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas in 2012 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences. She is currently re-enrolling  in college to pursue her  Bachelors of Applied Sciences Degree at Texas A&M Commerce and plans to go on to obtain her Master’s Degree at Texas Women’s University in Dallas to become an Occupational Therapist. She and her 5 year old daughter, Harmony Raindle reside in Desoto, Texas.

    Michele Betts completed her degree at Abilene Christian University where she obtained a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She has been working for Rehab Synergies since June of 2015. Her love for the aging population made working in a skilled nursing facility the perfect fit. She works with patients who have speech-language, swallowing, cognitive, and voice disorders. She is married to Garrett, who works at First Financial Bank as a trust investment officer. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and her two dogs, Addi and Shadow

    Heather Fisk graduated from Navarro College in 2010 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. Heather has worked worked in a variety of Therapy settings including pediatrics, schools, hospitals, in-patient/out patient, Psych, and SNFs. Heather started at Winfield Rehab & Nursing  as a COTA in March of 2015 and accepted the position as The Rehab Director on Aug 1st, 2016 and enjoy working at Winfield Rehab & Nursing; it is a very "Happy" environment for our patient's as well as the team she works with. She has enjoyed offering our patient's a "Better Quality of Life" through our therapy program! She will be married for 25 years in July, and have 3 Beautiful children.

    Kimberly has been practicing in the state of Texas for 12 years.  She leads the team of Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists at the facility. Kimberly and team specialize in Stroke Rehab, Pain Management and general Orthopedics.

    Misty Martin is the Director of Rehabilitation at Advanced Rehab and Healthcare of Wichita Falls. She was born in Wichita Falls. Misty began her career in 2003 as a CNA wanting to further her career she became a Rehab Tech in 2012. She shares her life with husband John, 11 year old daughter Bailee, and 7 month old son Cash.

    Jessica graduated from Panola college with an Associate of Applied Science Degree. She believes taht only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution, experience life’s deepest job; true fulfillment.  Jessica insists her reason for being here is to give hope and job back to her patients and in the end, let them feel the success and achievement of returning home.  Outside of her job, she enjoys doing anything outside including gardening, canoeing and adventure sports.

    Ryan Santos, Physical Therapist leads the Therapy Team at El paso Health & Rehab.  He began as a therapist at the facility and was promoted in 2012 to Director of Rehabilitation. Team El Paso aims to improve the quality of life of every patient they encounter.  With more than 80 years of combined therapy experience, the lastest available technology, innovative therapists and a fun loving attitude; we believe we can help our “borderland” community restore thier strenght and purpose in life; one patient at a time.

    Renee Bursey graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, and has been working at Seymour Rehab and Healthcare since December of 2012. She was promoted to Director of Rehabilitation in March of 2014. She absolutely loves being a physical therapist, and loves helping people regain their level of function and independence. Nothing is more rewarding than watching someone be able to return home with their families. Renee is married to Caleb Bursey, PT, DPT, who is a physical therapist at Seymour Hospital. They welcomed a baby girl into their family March 5, 2015! They also have a dog named Remington.

    Teresa Clark, COTA, is the Director of Rehab in Clyde , Texas. Teresa worked in Clyde for  2 years PRN, under the direction of April Fisher,  DPT, DOR. Teresa took a 6 month hiatus, then had the wonderful opportunity to come back to Clyde as DOR.  "It felt like coming home ". Teresa has a love for the facility due to the home town feel and all of the wonderful staff and patients.

    Attended Northwestern State University in Louisiana where I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Management and Master of Education Degree in Sport Administration.  I was a personal trainer for severe years before deciding to return to school at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where I graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy and a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.  My Wife is an Associate Professor at Texas A & M University in Commerce, TX which is what brought my family to Texas.  She accepted a job at A&M in 2004 and we made the trip from Nashville to Commerce, TX.  Love living in Texas and enjoy working for Rehab Synergies.  I have been employed with Rehab Synergies for 3 months as the Director of Rehab at Greenville Health and Rehab and hope to continue for several years.  I have two children, Bryce (3) and Ayla (6) who I spend most of my time with when I am not working and I have been married 20 years to Tara.

    Pat omas, COTA, Director of Rehabilitation, is originally from Roswell, New Mexico. She moved to the Dallas area in April of 2007 and started working at Renaissance at Kessler Park in November of 2007 as a PRN COTA. Pat started full time in September and became the Director of Rehabilitation in 2013. She is a mother to 4 children and Nana to 6 grandchildren. omas became a COTA after her son was injured in a motorcycle accident at the age of 14. He is a traumatic brain injury survivor. Pat loves working in skilled nursing as the patients she works with are very fun and entertaining to be around. is generation is full of history and Pat is happy to be a part of their rehabilitation process!

    Justin Smelley is the Rehab Director at Birmingham Healthcare Center. He has been in long term care for 11 years. Justin graduated in 1993 from Panola Collage School of Nursing as an LVN, He returned to Panola College and received an AAS in Occupational erapy in September of 1998. Justin is a current member Panola College Board of Occupational erapy and the Nacogdoches Jaycees. In his spare time Justin enjoys hunting, fishing, and an occasional round of golf with his wife and two daughters.

    Nicole Slater is the Director of Rehabilitation at Tomball Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Denver Colorado, but got to Texas as soon as she could. Nicole began her career working as a CNA in a long term care facility in 2004. She went to school at McCook Community College and Nebraska Methodist College. Since she moved here from Nebraska in 2008 she has been a rehab tech in long term care facilities or out-patient centers. She loves how rewarding it is to work with geriatric patients to help improve their quality of life. She has a loving personality and is a great team player.

    Purnananda Kar is an Occupational Therapist, board certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NCBOT) and member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Kar has over 15 years of experience in clinical as well as rehabilitation management. The vast majority of his experience has been with geriatric rehabilitation. Kar has been employed with us for over 9 years in different capacities. Currently, as the Director of Rehabilitation he oversees the clinical outcomes of all Rehabilitation patients. He leads an outstanding therapy team who make positive differences in the lives of their Residents. The Team has the primary objective of helping every resident to reach their goal and return to their choice of living. He provides the bridge between resident , family, nursing and medical staff. Outside of his work he enjoys writing, reading, traveling and spending time with family. He lives in Allen, TX with his wife and 2 children. He quotes “aging is not a number, it’s the feeling”, our responsibility is to give back that feeling.

    Michael is a recent transplant from San Diego, California, along with his wife Siobhon (Sha-Von), and children Sophia and Maks.   Michael comes to us with extensive experience and knowledge having worked in Geriatrics and Skilled Rehab for over 20+ years. He originally started as a Rehab Tech before continuing on to become a Physical Therapist 12 years ago. Michael was one of only 13 students throughout the U.S. accepted to an Accelerated (Physiotheropy) course in N. Ireland/UK where he graduated with Honors.

    As the Director of Rehab for over 8 years at several facilities in California, Michael played an integral part in helping those facilities become Medicare 5-star rated buildings and have them recognized multiple times by U.S.News and World Report as a “Best Nursing Homes” Award winner. During his time at each facility he helped to establish these buildings as the premier place to go for Rehab and Therapy in their respective communities.

    Michael is a licensed Physical Therapist in Texas, California, and Louisiana. He is also a recognized Physiotherapist in England, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the entire United Kingdom.

    Rachel Vaughan is our  Director of Rehab at Clarksville Nursing Center as of late June. Rachel is a Physical Therapist Assistant, who received her degree from Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant in 2011. She began practicing as a PTA in early 2012 in the long-term care setting, and has done so for the last 3 years. In addition, Rachel also has worked in home health care, and has provided outpatient services at CNC. Rachel enjoys working with the elderly and has had much success in inpatient and outpatient services alike. Rachel enjoys seeing her patients progress toward their goals and adding quality to their lives. Rachel recently returned from maternity leave after having her son Lincoln on April 15th. Rachel and her husband William, and their son  Lincoln, live in Bogata, TX.  Rachel enjoys spending her days off with her family enjoying the outdoors and sunshine. She  feels blessed to be here working at Clarksville Nursing Center.

    Rachel Ruiz is the Director of Rehabilitation at Vista Hills Healthcare Center. Ms. Ruiz has been practicing physical therapy for 19 years.Her experience spans treating people in different stages of their lives in a variety of different settings (acute care, outpatient, home health, and skilled nursing facilities).She chose a profession in healthcare because she has had a life long passion for helping individuals in need. Ms. Ruiz took over the duties of being the Director of Rehabilitation in 1999 and has been fundamental to the growth of our facility. Ms. Ruiz oversees all aspects of the therapy services at Vista Hills. She was born in Abilene, Texas but has lived in El Paso for a majority of her life. Her interest outside of work includes traveling, music, and is an avid animal lover as demonstrated by the 9 pets she keeps at home.

    Nidia’s passion for therapy in the Long Term Care setting was ignited when her Father required skilled treatment following a below knee amputation. Working with her Father and the therapy team helped her understand the need for Skilled Rehab for the Geriatric population. Nidia has been working in skilled nursing for thirteen years and with Rehab Synergies since 2010. During this time, her passion and skills for therapy has grown and she now serves as Director of Rehabilitation for the Therapy Department. She most recently received statewide recognition for excellence in Rehab Education.
